Demi Lovato Says She's "Seen A Lot Of Sh*t" In Tell-All Cosmo Interview

Demi Lovato is on the cover of the September issue of Cosmo, and the singer says she's "seen a lot of shit" in her life. In this revealing cover story, Lovato, 22, is more open than ever about her relationship with Wilmer Valderrama, her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, and what she thinks about other female pop singers in the game right now.

"The only times we ever broke up were when I was relapsing, whether it was drugs or in a bad place and rebelling against everybody, not just him," Lovato tells Cosmo about her five-year, on/off relationship with Valderrama. "The times we'd broken up, I had already gone to that place of, 'Yeah, this is what's happening.' I didn't realize it at the time, but I just wanted to sabotage everything around me so that I could sabotage myself."

The couple started dating shortly after Lovato turned 18, and she went to rehab at the very beginning of their relationship. "People told him, ‘You should probably leave. She’s on a spiral, and you’re going to be sucked down with it.’ But he was like, ‘I’m not leaving. This is somebody I really care about,'" Lovato says. "We relate on a lot of levels. I’ve seen a lot of shit. Shit people don’t know about. He’s seen a lot of stuff too."

Lovato doesn't elaborate on the shit that she's seen, but she does share glimpse at the type of boyfriend Valderrama is these days. Apparently, he gets along great with her ex Joe Jonas and his brother, Nick. "It’s weird. In the beginning, I was like, ‘Why the fuck are you friends with Joe?’ [Wilmer] was like, ‘He’s a cool guy.’ Yeah, I know. I dated him."

In one final juicy tidbit, Lovato throws down the gauntlet for female pop stars she thinks are merely posers. "There are a lot of girls in pop. They have badass lyrics, but I feel like I'm the only person other than Rihanna and Nicki Minaj who isn't afraid to say, 'Try something on me and I'll fucking beat your ass.' There are people who can dress up and play the part, but their music doesn't say it."

She doesn't name any names, but should we consider this shade thrown, or just Lovato asserting her position as an artist? We'd prefer the latter, because women should support other women and all that, but please discuss. (Cosmopolitan)
