The controversial tweet in question? Keyboardist Jesse Carmichael's birthday message to the Dalai Lama. The message and a related Instagram post have since been deleted. His Holiness has had a contentious relationship with China in his battle for Tibetan independence. The holy figure has been exiled in India since 1959. Now, two Maroon 5 shows this September have been cancelled. No official explanation has been given, but the BBC notes that Chinese authorities were reportedly angered over the band's support of the Dalai Lama.
