Jimmy Carter Has The Sweetest Pro-Same-Sex-Marriage Message

Jimmy Carter doesn't have any problem aligning his support for same-sex marriage with his deep Christian faith. In an interview with Marc Lamont Hill of HuffPost Live on July 7, Carter said he thought that the Christian doctrines of love and acceptance outweighed any prohibition against same-sex activity. In the wake of the Supreme Court decision in late June to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, some of the most vocal opposition to the ruling has come from the Christian right. Wisconsin Governor and soon-to-announce presidential candidate Scott Walker said he'd propose amending the Constitution to let states ban marriage equality if elected. In contrast, when Hill asked Carter, "Would Jesus support gay marriage?" Carter replied, "I believe he would [but] I don't have any verse in Scripture." After the host clarified he wasn't looking for a Bible passage but instead what Carter feels "intuitively," the former president went on to say, "I believe Jesus would approve of gay marriage." Carter was on the show to talk about his new memoir, A Full Life: Reflections at 90, in which he recounts his youth, his presidency, and his years as a philanthropist and activist since leaving the White House.
