The Church of Scientology is in defensive mode following news that Ronald Miscavige Sr., the father of Scientology leader David Miscavige, is planning to publish a tell-all book. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that If He Dies, He Dies will be published by St. Martin's Press. The memoir's title refers to a Los Angeles Times story in which the elder Miscavige claimed that his son made the callous remark in response to his heart troubles. The Church is denying that allegation. "Mr. Miscavige has always taken care of his father and continues to do so,” Church spokesperson Karin Pouw said in a statement to THR. "Beyond that, as a matter of policy, neither the Church nor Mr. Miscavige comments on members of his family. The Church knows nothing beyond media reports about any purported book." The statement continued,"As for the purported emergency incident involving an investigator and the second-hand account of an alleged conversation containing a despicably false quote, Mr. Miscavige's attorney, Michael Lee Hertzberg, is on record stating that Mr. Miscavige does not know the investigator, has never heard of the investigator, has never met the investigator, has never spoken to the investigator, never hired the investigator, and never directed any investigations by him. So let me be clear: No such conversation with Mr. Miscavige ever took place and any claim that one did is provable bullshit." The book is expected to touch on the estranged relationship between father and son, as well as provide a glimpse into the inner workings inside the controversial Church followed by stars like Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, and more. Its upcoming release follows the recent premiere of Going Clear, an HBO documentary criticizing the Church and its leaders.
