This List Of Greatest Film Characters Has A Woman Problem

It's no surprise that a new list naming the greatest film characters of all time features such memorable names as James Bond, John McClane, and Batman. It is disappointing, however, that only one female role managed to crack the top 10. Empire Magazine polled more than 10,000 people on their favorite characters, with Indiana Jones leading the charge in the top spot. Han Solo, The Joker, Fight Club's Tyler Durden, Darth Vader, and Big Lebowski's The Dude also made the list — but there's just a sole woman in their midst: Ellen Ripley of Alien, played by Sigourney Weaver. An accompanying list of beloved TV characters also shows little love for female roles. Again, just one woman made the top 10: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Have none of these people heard of Daenerys Targaryen or Olivia Pope? Elaine Benes even? An apparent predilection for action heroes among those polled might be to blame, but it's not as if Hollywood hasn't given us plenty of female options in that category. Lara Croft, Princess Leia, Catwoman, Katniss Everdeen, and The Bride all go unrecognized. What gives, movie fans? [Sky News]
