Are These Jurassic World Dinosaurs Racist?

Jurassic World is a bonafide global blockbuster. It raked in more than $1 billion in just 13 days. Although the film is a hit in international markets like China, Mexico, and the U.K., it's actually courting some controversy in the latter. The Pachycephalosaurus is one of the dinosaurs featured in the film. That's kind of a mouthful to say, though, when (spoiler alert) a bunch of them have escaped and need to be caught — quickly. This lead to dialogue in which Pachycephalosaurus was abbreviated to "pachy(s)," which is pronounced like "paki(s)." Unfortunately, it's also an offensive term for Pakistani people in the U.K. British comedian Mobeen posted a video calling out Jurassic World for using the slur. He even urged fans to boycott the film.
Several Twitter users also picked up on Mobeen's point: "[O]mg in Jurassic World they actually said 'another Paki roaming outside his zone' THAT'S TEN TIMES WORSE," @hajmolas tweeted. "The way they dropped Paki like 4 times at the beginning of Jurassic World was a madting," @MrCoKane_ wrote. "[W]ent to see Jurassic World, overheard someone say the Pakis are out of control, apparently thr is a dinosaur called Paki~Saurus #hugMeIAmPaki," @naumanbasheer commented. The similarity between the dinosaur's nickname and the racial slur was most likely unintentional, but we've reached out to Universal Pictures for comment.
