Beyoncé Posts Quiet But Powerful Memorial To Charleston Victims

Friendship with First Lady Michelle Obama aside, Beyoncé isn't known as being among the most hardcore political activist in the celebrity world. Which is why when she does make a statement, it carries great weight. Today, she adds her voice to those paying tribute to the nine who lost their lives in the senseless terrorist attack at a church in Charleston.

Actually, it's not her voice at all, but a moment of silence, showing the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and the names of those shot and killed by Dylann Roof on Wednesday night — Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lance, Myra Thompson and Tywanza Sanders. On Thursday, sister Solange Knowles tweeted, "Was already weary. Was already heavy hearted. Was already tired. Where can we be safe? Where can we be free? Where can we be black?"

Amid her beautiful pictures of her beautiful life and beautiful daughter, Beyoncé's video is a stark reminder of the loss. But it also echoes her quiet posts two months ago, after the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore.
