SNL Has No Female Hosts On The Emmy Ballot

This was the week TV shows and actors tossed their names in the "For Your Consideration" ring for the 2015 Emmy Awards. And some have noticed a glaring vacancy in Saturday Night Live's choices. Of the nine hosts submitted for Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series, absolutely zero are women, TheWrap points out.

Louis C.K., Jim Carrey, Bill Hader, Woody Harrelson, Kevin Hart, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Rock, and J.K. Simmons are all up for consideration, as you can see on the ballot. But no Reese Witherspoon, Taraji P. Henson, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Dakota Johnson, Cameron Diaz, or Sarah Silverman. To be fair, some of the women who hosted didn't really have us ROTFLing (sorry, ScarJo). Then again, um, Chris Hemsworth?

But this might not be another instance of SNL momentarily forgetting about women. For the Emmy ballot, the performers can be submitted by the shows, or they can pay $200 to submit their own names. In this case, it was entirely up to the hosts or their reps to step up. SNL and NBC do not have an official comment on the matter.

In the years since "variety" shows could have nominees in the category, Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake have each won Outstanding Guest Actor twice for the show, while Tina Fey and Betty White have each won Outstanding Guest Actress.

If it's not the fault of the show itself, it's sad to think that actresses, just like women in other workplaces, might not be putting themselves forward for recognition.
