Amber Heard On The "Saddening Injustice" Of Female Roles & Life As Mrs. Johnny Depp

Amber Heard is sick of being sent scripts full of "placeholder girls that are there to provide a bounce for the male character." The actress, who is gearing up for the premiere of her on screen tete-a-tete with Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL on July 1, discusses Hollywood casting stereotypes and more in the July issue of Elle.

When it comes to typical female characters, "we know he's funny because she's serious and she's mad at him. We know he's strong because she needs saving. So really her job is to validate this personality trait of our hero or male," Heard explains. "I mean we're trying to imitate life, and it seems to me a deeply saddening injustice that we are so uncreative and uninterested in developing representations of female life."

When asked if whether she's "tiring of being put in 'a Barbie box,'" the blonde beauty gets candid: "I feel like I'm constantly fighting against my exterior, or this exterior presentation of myself because of how I look or perhaps because of who I'm with."

The "who" in question here is none other than Mr. Johnny Depp himself (perhaps you've heard of him?); After meeting on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011, the couple tied the knot just this February. But according to Heard, "Nothing [in the relationship] is a dramatic change" since the pair's nuptials. "We've been together for a long time now, so it's been a fairly organic process. I have a fiercely independent spirit."

To which we say, kudos; independence is not only healthy, but can also make relationships stronger.
