While sure summer is just getting started, and its new TV game is pretty damn strong. Network execs are a very forward-thinking bunch, which is why they convened earlier this month in New York City to reveal what's on tap for fall. Each network hosted a presentation called an upfront (or, in the case of digital platforms such as Yahoo and Hulu, a newfront) to provide advertisers and media buyers with tantalizing ad placement opportunities.

It's not all advertiser flattery, though. The upfronts and newfronts have a silver lining for all TV lovers. Over time, they've also become an opportunity for reporters to see previews of what to expect on TV (and streaming platforms) that fall. Any television fan looking for their next favorite show can appreciate this sneak peek.

Here are the highlights from the 2015 upfronts and newfronts. From Supergirl to the return of Neil Patrick Harris, you're sure to find a new show to love.

    Supergirl

    Network: CBS

The gist: CBS has heard the siren call for more female superheroes and decided Supergirl was the answer. The trailer caught a bit of flack for its similarities to SNL's Black Widow rom-com parody, but we're holding out hope that the series errs more on the side of badass than bumbling, trying-to-have-it-all heroine.

Airs: Mondays at 8 p.m. ET
