When contemporary art comes to New York City from all over the world, eccentric, eclectic, and electric fashion follows. That's how it looked over the weekend at the annual Frieze Art Fair on Randall's Island. Artists, gallerists, and onlookers congregated under an expansive, white tent to survey vibrant works from some of the planet's most cutting-edge creators, eat Roberta's pizza, and take some seriously awe-inspiring 'grams.
From the borrowed to the bespoke, the collected to the couture, the garb of Frieze attendees had us just as mesmerized as the art. Which is what makes the fair so cool — where some art can be antiquated or inaccessible, the sights at Frieze constitute a multicultural celebration of all things creative.
We not only stopped to admire visitors' ensembles, we also asked where on earth, in this crazy concrete jungle we call home, do they turn to find personal inspiration? Ahead, 25 quirky fair-goers shared what makes this city so inspiring — and how they brought those extraordinarily unique getups to life.
