Meet The Rad New Tattoo Artist Everyone In L.A. Is Talking About

Breaking into the L.A. tattoo game is no easy task, and certainly not one that is accomplished quickly, but there's a new artist in Pasadena who's on his way to becoming the hottest thing in ink — and he's only been Stateside for a few months. Meet Daniel Meyer, a German tattoo artist who arrived in L.A. earlier this year and almost immediately garnered a loyal following.
Of course, looking at his work, it should come as no surprise. Just like local legend Dr. Woo, Meyer gravitates towards organic shapes and only works in shades of grey. But, Meyer's vibe is dark and weighty, with a unique sensibility that plays into the SoCal look, but also pays homage to a heavier, more German aesthetic.
It's this style that's getting Meyer more and more buzz around town, which leads to a longer and longer wait list; currently, the wait time is around two months. In an interview with L.A. Weekly, he explained his style in more depth. "Since my earliest drawings, I've always been attached to natural objects and textures," he told the site, explaining that technical classes in college helped him further develop his talents. "It all came together, the high contrast between natural structures and the static appearance of geometric figures."
Over the past five years as a tattoo artist in a small German town named Kassel, Meyer has been growing his clientele steadily. But, perhaps the best part of this story is his passion for L.A. "I totally fell in love with the city," he said. "The vibe is refreshing, and of course, I love the weather."
To celebrate our city's newest talent, we've rounded up a few of our favorite of his works. Click through our slideshow to check them out, then head over to L.A. Weekly for more on Meyer.
