Beyoncé Asks For Help On Behalf Of The People Of Baltimore

Everett Collection/REX USA
Charges have been filed, and five of the six officers responsible are still in custody. But, it’s going to take so much more than that for Baltimore to heal from everything that's happened these last few weeks. Not just in an emotional sense, either. Areas of the city have been devastated by the riots, and getting them back  into livable shape isn’t going to be easy. Beyoncé was quick to call for support to help speed the process along. “People are hurting," she shared on Instagram yesterday. "Join us in supporting the NAACP to help in the cleanup efforts and to provide housing, food and supplies to those affected by the unrest in Baltimore.” Along with her message, the singer shared a photo of a man draped in an American flag with the names of black men who have died at the hands of police scrawled within the stripes, as well as TIME magazine’s provocative image of a man darting away from a legion of officers.  Beyoncé isn’t the only celeb who lent her social presence to the cause in Baltimore this week: John Legend, Amandla Stenberg, and Jada Pinkett Smith (among others) all responded to the unrest there. We were particularly glad to see Queen Bey giving people a productive channel to help the people of that city, though. These days, they could certainly use the support.
