The Daily Show has finally announced who will be replacing the departing Jon Stewart as its new host. Here's what you need to know: It's not a woman, but it's not a middle-aged white dude, either. Chances are you've never heard of him — but you should. He's very easy on the eyes, has a sexy accent, and has a strong track record of making us laugh. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Trevor Noah.
The 31-year-old South African comedian has been tapped as Comedy Central show's new host, which The New York Times confirmed this morning. Noah has only appeared on the program three times — including his well-aimed satire about American attitudes towards Ebola, which you can watch below — but clearly made a winning impression.
"I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor,” Jon Stewart said in a statement to the newspaper. “He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.”
Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless added that Noah brings "something really exciting and new and different."
Noah's résumé certainly suggests that: The biracial funnyman has been a soap star, a contestant on the South African equivalent of Dancing with the Stars, and the first South African comedian to appear on Late Show With David Letterman and The Tonight Show.
