On Wednesday, Shonda Rhimes expressed her displeasure in a Deadline story about minorities on television. The writer argued that TV has become too diverse and "ethnic castings" have become "too much of a good thing." In response, Rhimes took to Twitter, saying the article was "so ignorant I can't even be bothered." Last night, Refinery29 spoke to Gina Rodriguez at the Procter & Gamble Orgullosa night of Nuevas Latinas Living Fabulosa. The event celebrated Latina women and focused on confidence, strength, and success of modern Latinas. So, it was the perfect time to ask the Golden Globe Award-winning actress of Jane the Virgin how she felt about Deadline's story and Rhimes' reaction to it. "I'd love to believe that we're misreading the tone of that article," Rodriguez told us. "I don't think there's anybody that reads that and agrees that anything's being taken away from anyone," she said, speaking to the writer's claim that agents' white clients are missing opportunities because of an emphasis on casting minorities. "Let's just hope the writer has the opportunity to clear up anything we've maybe misread as negative." Perhaps in the spirit of the celebratory evening, Rodriguez was more interested in remaining positive. "I love to give people the benefit of the doubt. Nobody wants negative in their life."
