Mindy Kaling’s TV Character Is Ruining Her Dating Life

You'd think having your own television show would be a guaranteed game-crusher, but it turns out people have quite some difficulty separating reality from fiction. Mindy Kaling is single right now, and the fact that she shares a first name and a face with the character she plays on TV is causing a bit of confusion. On The Mindy Project, Mindy Lahiri is frequently described using expressions like "a Godless sex maniac," and that was just on last night's episode. She went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and said that it leads dates to believe that she's a lot more like her TV character than is actually the case. "I'm not very much like my character, who is very wild, and I think that when I go on dates there's this expectation that I'm going to have like 11 martinis and like pass out and spend the night really soon," Kaling told Ellen. "And, I think people get a little disappointed because my true self — I could never do that, like have a one-night stand. Because, I have my medications that I have to take at night! I have to be at my house and, like, do my flossing." In addition to a pillbox with carefully sorted-out medication, Mindy likes to have various gradations of pillows ranging from body-length to a special one for reading, which then gets swapped out for a medium-soft pillow when it's actually time to go to sleep.  Potential suitors really just need to know that Mindy Kaling is actually more like Goldilocks than Mindy Lahiri. Don't give her a bedazzled pillbox if you want to impress her, though, because Ellen already did that.
