Oklahoma’s Racist Frat Scandal Keeps Getting Worse

The furor surrounding the racist fraternity video that emerged on Sunday from the University of Oklahoma appears to be anything but over. University president David Boren announced today that he’s expelled two students that were identified as leading the despicable chant. In a statement, Boren says he dismissed the students for establishing “a hostile learning environment for others,” noting that "there is zero tolerance for this kind of threatening racist behavior at the University of Oklahoma.” Sadly, however, there's an indication that it wasn't an isolated incident — a second video surfaced showing the frat's 79-year-old "house mom" engaging in a similar chant.  Additionally, after onlookers reportedly noted the appearance of women in the video, too, at least one sorority is speaking up about the incident. Though no one can confirm yet which sororities were present on the bus when the offensive chant took place, the national chapter of Tri Delta says it will cooperate fully with investigators — though it’s unclear if Tri Delta is actually being investigated — and decries the incident. "Tri Delta expects its members to uphold the highest responsibilities of college women. The behavior documented in the video is deplorable and is in no way consistent with Tri Delta's ideals and core values,” wrote the national chapter of Delta Delta Delta in a statement released to a local news station. The local chapter of Tri Delta also responded, saying, “We believe that the university is a place where tolerance and mutual respect should carry the day and where bigotry and intolerance should be left as historical reminders of how far we have come.” All of the Oklahoma university’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon members have been forced to move out as the fraternity chapter was shut down, the university cutting all ties with the national organization. In a sad note, the fraternity’s African American chef is now jobless. It’s a horrible situation all around — one that seems to keep getting worse.
