Chloe Sevigny Has Strong Opinions About Emma Stone & J Lawr

Chloe Sevigny is still the consummate It Girl — even if the East Village streets she strutted in the '90s are more NYU than downtown
cool. She has a glossy coffee table book coming out in April, had
plenty to say about the state of her career and Hollywood in a V Magazine feature, from why good taste
is boring to the crassness of American's BFF Jennifer Lawrence.

Sevigny, whose street style propelled her into the pages of Sassy in 1992, has still got the slightly
off-kilter fashionista edge that made her famous. "Everyone is so obsessed
with good taste, and I find that really boring. I was really selective and
wanted to set a mood and capture this spirit of not, like, the pretty girl, the
sexy girl, but a different quality," she said about her upcoming book. (Kim
Gordon, another queen of cool, wrote the foreward, natch.)

The Big Love star also
chatted about her career. Since making a splash in Kids back in 1995, Sevigny's had roles in movies and TV shows as
varied as The Last Days of Disco and Boys Don't Cry to The Mindy Project. "I'm afraid that maybe people think there's more
personality than acting ability. What I did on Big Love, Hit & Miss,
and American Horror Story, it's not
like I'm just playing the same character over and over again. I would like to
be respected more as an actress. It's not like I can complain about anything. I
think I've had great opportunities, but you can always have more." She
also talks about the critical drubbing she got for Brown Bunny, and how she's no longer friends with Vincent Gallo.

Sevigny also has strong opinions on how your movie star
sausage gets made. "So much is about marketing and selling the product.
They’ll have a really peppy funny girl on the talk show rounds, and everybody
adores her and loves her and wants to be her or f*ck her, and then so many more
people want to watch the movie or TV show. I understand that star quality, how
much value that carries. I love when a movie star is a great movie star. I
think Angelina Jolie is a great movie star. I don’t think I can be that, or
just be an actor. I don’t think I have the charisma. Which is probably why I
never reached another level. I like Emma Stone. Whenever she's herself, she’s
really cute. Jennifer Lawrence I find annoying. Too crass."

The Spring 2015 issue of V
Magazine
features Selena Gomez and is currently on stands.
