Taylor Swift’s Legs Are Worth $40 Million, Which Sounds About Right

Happy Day After International Women's Day, everybody! Now
let's talk about commodifying women's bodies! Only half-kidding here. According
to the National Enquirer, Taylor Swift may be getting her legs insured for $40
million before she heads out on tour this spring.

"It seems like a ludicrous sum, but if something was to
happen to her legs, Taylor wouldn't be able to give her signature stage
performances," a source told the tabloid. This being our
TayTay,
she was blown away by the sum. "She
thought her legs were possibly worth a million. But $40 million shocked her.
She’s even a little embarrassed about it."

All sarcasm about this gossip aside, it's totally
believable, given what we've heard over the years about other performers and
athletes getting policies on their body parts. It's just like the supplemental disability insurance you might be offered
through your work and probably never get. Only for a lot more money, in
accordance with how much money would be lost if these famous people couldn't
use said body parts.

Mariah Carey was said to get a billion-dollar policy on
her legs back in 2006, when she was also on contract with Gillette. Jennifer
Lopez's butt is rumored to be insured for $27 million. So, yeah, Taylor's
gorgeous gams seem to fall right in that ballpark.

While we don't know where exactly Swift's people would be
taking out this policy, it's usually done through someplace like Lloyds of
London. Celebs have been doing this since Hollywood's early days. Bette Davis' waist
was said to be worth $28,000
. Which begs the question: What exactly was going
to happen to her waist? If she ate extra pie one day, would the benefits kick
in?

Now, we'll leave you with this mildly morbid/encouraging thought: Wouldn't
Taylor's fans show up to a concert if she had to perform on crutches?
