Though the Representation Project launched the #AskHerMore campaign during the 2014 awards season, the Twitter movement has really come into focus this year. #AskHerMore is all about getting better interviews for women — ones that don't focus on what actresses are wearing, but on their career, achievements, and goals. Tonight, Reese Witherspoon took to both social media and her interview with ABC's Robin Roberts to address this very issue.
Before Witherspoon even arrived at the Oscars, she shared some sample questions reporters could ask. She shared an image created by Obvi, We're The Ladies.
She didn't even bother with Ryan Seacrest or Giuliana Rancic (as far as we could see.) In her interview with Roberts, though, Witherspoon just went for it.
"You know, this is a movement to say we're more than just our dresses," she told the ABC presenter. "The dresses are beautiful; we love the artists that make these clothes. But, this is a group of women — 44 nominees this year, Robin, that are women — and we are so happy to be here and talk about the work that we've done, you know? It's hard being a woman in Hollywood or in any industry. It's exciting for me to get to talk to other nominees about all the hard work that they did...it's been a great year producing Gone Girl and Wild, and [my company] just hopes to have more success in the future bringing great leading roles to women."
Here's hoping actresses start getting the questions they deserve.
