Garbage Dresses Are Officially A Thing — & They’re Expensive

From eel skin and pineapple-based plastic to spider silk, the sustainable fashion movement has seen its fair share of unexpected innovations over the past few seasons. But, just when you thought things couldn’t get any weirder — meet the young label that’s turning old garbage into designer gowns.    In a real-life "one man's trash is another man's treasure" scenario, the Florida-based brand Garbage Gone Glam makes dresses fashioned out of discarded magazines, soda bottles, concert tickets, and candy wrappers — all things most people don’t think twice about tossing away. Designer Kristen Alyce told The Daily Mail that the idea came to her a few years ago as a creative way to recycle waste. “I realized as a college student living with three girls, we created so much waste it was incredible,” she said. “So I started saving the mass amounts of plastic bags, magazines, boxes, and packaging we went through on a daily basis.” The results are clothes made of trash that actually look like they're made of trash. Considering that prices for the garments range from $500 to $1,500, you might wonder whether that empty Barilla box would have a better afterlife if you sent it through a recycling plant and not, say, a sewing machine. (Daily Mail)
