Andy Cohen Calls Out The Real Housewives On “My Gays”

Over the year, we've learned a lot about what not to do from The Real Housewives series, from flipping tables to embezzlement. The latest life lesson is via Andy Cohen, who has finally had enough of a certain phrase banded about on this season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Last night, Cohen introduced a clip on Watch What Happens Live that was a montage of the Housewives using "gays" or "my gays" to refer to gay men. As Lance Bass and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps looked on, Cohen gently schooled the Housewives about just how uncool this trend is. "Even though some of your friends might be gay, which is great, they are not yours," he emphasized with air quotes. "You do not own them. We are not cattle. We are not purses. And, the next time you feel like saying 'my gays,' replace it with 'my Blacks' and see how that turns out."  It was all said with a smile, and Cohen ended his Teachable Moment by saying, "I will say, we are good at reading, so consider yourselves read. I love you."  Lance Bass added, "Kyle, you know I love you so much, but when you throw the next gay party, call me. Because that looked awful!" It's unclear if de Lesseps really picked up what they're putting down, but at least some of the Housewives agreed and/or apologized on Twitter. More or less. It's fairly atypical for one on-air Bravo personality to take even the least critical stand against another. That goes double for the good-natured Cohen, who is usually pretty chill no matter what kind of nonsense his guest is blathering. Trust, his guests are always saying some sort of nonsense that he lets slide, like when Patti Stanger let loose all sorts of stuff about how gay men can't handle monogamy and so on.  Is this a new side of the onscreen personality? Is Cohen getting bigger than the Housewives, and if so, can he please get a second show where he just calls out every Housewife in every franchise for every terrible thing they do and say? The ratings would be through the roof. [Vulture]
