Vogue Calls Dakota Johnson “This Decade’s Vivien Leigh”

Vogue
is leading the charge of the Dakota Johnson coverage that's currently rushing towards us in an unstoppable wave. It's not often that an actress lands on the cover of the illustrious fashion magazine for her first major role. Nevertheless, Johnson will be catapulting into the cultural consciousness when she stars in Fifty Shades of Grey next month. As the cover of Vogue explains, she's got over 100 million fans of E.L. James' book to please. It's kind of a big deal.
The interview mostly discusses how Johnson is enjoying her relative anonymity before Fifty Shades hits theaters. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson spoke highly of her star, praising the actress' ability to handle the film's physically and emotionally revealing scenes. "[S]cenes where she had to be naked — and not just in the flesh. But she was utterly fearless and brave.”

Once the film — which Taylor-Johnson describes as "a very dark Grimm's fairy tale, told for adults" — arrives on the big screen, Dakota Johnson might just become "this decade's Vivien Leigh." It's a huge claim for writer Hamish Bowles to make, but hey, Gone With the Wind was also a polarizing and intense love story. Cue the commenter rage over the comparison, we know.
No matter how Fifty Shades is received, Johnson already plans to take the rest of the year off to spend time with her friends and family. Stow your twitchy commenting fingers. (Vogue)
