Kathy Griffin Disses Amal Clooney, Calls Her “Annoying”

Barbara Walters' pick for the number-one most fascinating person of 2014 is, according to Kathy Griffin, "annoying."
The heir to Joan Rivers' Fashion Police throne came out guns blazing last night for her premiere episode. "Yeah, she's annoying," Griffin said when Amal Clooney's portrait flashed on screen. "I thought it was weird she had those gloves that remind me of, like, a porn scene, where the guy goes home and there's the naughty dishwasher and she only has the gloves."
For the record, Griffin is talking about a woman who is, as Tina Fey perfectly summed up at this year's Golden Globes, "a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria and was selected for a three-person U.N. commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza strip." She also happens to be married to George Clooney. Amateur housewife fetish porn star wearing "bovine insemination gloves" is far from her middle name.

Prior to her celebrity digs, Griffin promised to "bring the hammer down on anyone and on everyone" — like Rivers had taught her. However, unlike her predecessor, Griffin tried to explain her quips. "I'm fascinated how we're like, not supposed to make fun of her because she married the great George Clooney," she continued. "Look, everybody's on the table, George! Nobody's safe, nobody gets a pass." The Washington Post rightly observed that "Rivers didn't explain the joke — she just let the harsh zingers fly," adding that Griffin "tried too hard to make enemies."
Griffin's choice to diss Amal Clooney's gloves was, from an outsider's perspective, a low blow. Rivers would've likely joked about Clooney's aloof demeanor and said the dated gloves were some sort of icing on the cake. Fortunately, Clooney's cavalier attitude towards all things celebrity probably means she's not wasting her time reading what some self-proclaimed D-lister thinks about her sartorial decisions. And, if she does, she probably doesn't care because at the end of the day she's the one sharing a bed with George Clooney. (USA Today)
