1:30 p.m.: Alamo Drafthouse CEO Tim League has released a statement regarding forthcoming screenings of The Interview.
"We cannot imagine the pressures that have been affecting Sony, at all levels of the organization they have been under attack. Amidst this unwarranted chaos, they have regrouped and listened to the public, the government and the exhibition community and responded with resolve and determination. At 10:45 AM Sony bookers approved screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and other arthouse and independent theaters across the country."
"This is the best Christmas gift anyone could give us. We, both distributors and exhibitors, have collectively stood firm to our principles and for the right to freedom of expression. "
Screening times and locations are still being determined. League advises those interested to follow on Twitter for immediate updates.
1:30 p.m.: James Franco echoed his co-star's sentiments in an Instagram this afternoon. The common theme in both actors' responses to Sony's approved screenings of their film seems to be "victory."

Sony has authorized screenings of The Interview for Christmas Day, according to developing news on Twitter. Tim League, founder and CEO of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, tweeted this information earlier today.
League is a member of the Art House Convergence, a national coalition of independent art house cinemas. The group wrote an open letter to Sony expressing its support, and set up a petition on Change.org on December 22, which had only received 532 signatures when League broke the news.

The promised screenings come after a tumultuous round of will-they won't-they from Sony. After a cyber attack from North Korea, Sony faced threats of violence against theaters who screen the movie and the film's release was canceled accordingly. Sony, however, appears to have bowed to the demands of those who say canceling the film is both un-American and an insult to the people who produced it. President Obama made a public announcement regarding the Sony hack, saying he wished Sony would have come to him first before making the call to cancel the film entirely. George Clooney, too, circulated a petition around Hollywood to get the movie into theaters.
We'll update with more information on screenings as it becomes available.
