Have you heard of Zoella yet? If you're not one of the millions of people who visit Zoe Sugg's blog, watch her YouTube tutorials, follow her on Twitter, or admire her perfectly curated Instagram photos, well — it's time to get up to speed. Sugg has just written her first novel at the age of 24, Girl Online, and it's selling faster than butterbeer at a Hogwarts high school reunion.
That's right, Girl Online has sold more copies in its first week of publication than JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, and EL James' Fifty Shades of Grey. That's dubious company, minus Ms. Rowling, but in terms of hard cash sales? Yeah, that's nothing to sniff at. And, to think that Penguin Random House CEO Tom Weldon only signed Sugg because his goddaughter suggested it would be "a huge best-seller."
Children really are the future. Of publishing. (Time)
