When Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman said he'd be fine with a gay Daryl Dixon, fans of the show kind of ran away with it. This is it, many thought. Daryl is gay, and Kirkman is a pioneer of American television. Alas, after Sunday night's show, Kirkman set the record straight — quite literally.
On The Talking Dead, the session after the Walking Dead where we all talk out our feelings with people from the show itself, Kirkman told the audience Daryl wasn't going to be gay after all.
"I just wanted to make it clear that I was saying that the possibility is there and I would've been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn't do that. I can make it official — Daryl Dixon is actually straight," he said.
After Beth died in the mid-season finale, the audience was seemingly split in two. Daryl-Beth shippers were heartbroken that the one potential romance for Daryl was now gone, and those who hoped Daryl might be gay saw a glimmer of hope. Now that his maybe-love interest had been eliminated from the story, there would be room for Daryl to explore his true sexuality.
Nope.

However, Kirkman did say that there will be gay character coming soon. "Coming back in our next half of the season, we're going to be introducing a very prominent gay character from the comics that'll be debuting," he added.
Now only one question remains: Is it February yet?
