There is no denying that fashion is improving for those over a size 14. The days of being forced to venture down into a dark basement corridor in your local department store just to find unflattering options are all but over, as more brands have begun to value the full-figured customer.
Now, U.K. fast-fashion favorite Missguided is entering plus territory. The new range, appropriately called Missguided+, is filled with cool graphic T-shirts, on-trend velvet dresses, plush faux-fur pieces — everything you'd expect from its main collection. No longer do girls above a U.S. size 10 (the Missguided+ line starts at a U.S. 12) have to pine away at designs that they can't fit, having to settle for accessories or shoes. When asked about why the brand finally decided to offer an expanded size line, founder Nitin Passi explained, “We pride ourselves on being an inclusive brand and we had feedback from customers and prospective customers that they wanted our range of affordable fast fashion in a broader size offering.” Passi went on to say, “Looking at key territories of operation, including U.S. and U.K., we have observed a shift in dress size where size 16 has become average and we want to be able to cater [to] every Missguided girl.”
While the line currently only goes up to a U.S. size 20, Passi says the brand will continue to listen to its customers, and will expand the line further if the interest is there — this includes tweaking the size range of the original Missguided line, if that's what the customers want.
While the pieces and prices are fantastic (ranging from $18.98 to $94.98) it's Passi's mindset that really has us excited. This is proof that women who wear larger sizes are being heard by the fashion industry, that if we continue to voice our sartorial desires, there are brands out there that are listening. Needless to say: Keep talking.
