Zelda Williams’ New Tattoo Beautifully Honors Her Dad

Zelda Williams took a social media hiatus after her father Robin's death in August. Now, Williams is slowly returning to the world of Twitter and Instagram. She is being eloquent, smart, and discerning about using social media to harness the good and warn others about its downsides.
Williams first broke her silence in early September, when she tweeted a message with a link to her blog. The post, from 2012, is a quote from Harvey Fierstein about ignoring bullies and staying true to your own course.
On October 10, Williams tweeted a series of notes tied to World Mental Health Day. In one tweet, she included links to mental health charities. In another, Zelda remembers her father's struggle with depression.

Yesterday, Williams shared a touching new tribute to her father on Instagram. The photo displays two new tattoos on Zelda's hand and wrist. One is a hummingbird; the other her father's date of birth, July 21, 1951. "For poppo," the caption reads. "I'll always put my hand out to shake with a smile."
The caption also contains a note about how carefully Williams will be using social media in the future. "This is MY ONLY account," she writes. "Publicly, I have Twitter, and this. If other people post quotes and photos claiming to be me or my family, please, do not send them personal information or click links, even for charity. They could be utilizing sympathy to scam you. For the record, no one has ever or will ever speak for me but me. Thank you."
Thank you, Zelda Williams, for remaining a pillar of strength and understanding in the face of online trolls and bullies. Ahead, see Williams' new tattoos and more heartfelt tributes to her father.
