After receiving pressure from listeners, a pair of San Francisco radio stations are both temporarily boycotting a song that even your grandmother loves: Lorde's "Royals." We know, how could they?
Apparently, it's all in the name of baseball. KFOG Radio and 96.5 KOIT have decided to bench the song until after the S.F. Giants take on the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. Which might seem silly, but as it turns out, the song was actually inspired by the team — or rather, a National Geographic photograph of Royals legend George Brett signing baseballs for fans. Since then, it has become an unofficial anthem of sorts for the Royals.

Meanwhile, at least one Kansas City station has plans to run the jam every hour on the hour tomorrow, in honor of the opening game at Kauffman Stadium.
"I respect the work of Mr. Brian Figula, 96.5 KOIT program director, and his team of broadcast professionals, but we won't let their anti-Royals spirit ruin this moment," Tony Lorino, of K.C.'s KZPT, said in a statement. "A few angry San Franciscans who don't have a song called 'Giants' won't rain on our parade."
So much drama — and, call us crazy, but we can't really imagine that Lorde cares much about it either way.
