Reese Witherspoon On Her 2013 Arrest: “I Made A Mistake”

While Shia LaBeouf is turning his June arrest into late-night comedy fodder, Reese Witherspoon is taking a more diplomatic approach when it comes to explaining her own brush with the law.
As you may remember, the Legally Blonde star was arrested for disorderly conduct last year in Atlanta. Though the actress swiftly issued a mea culpa, she faced questions about the incident during a press conference for her new film, Wild, at the BFI London Film Festival this week.
"I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn't exactly what they thought I was," the Oscar winner told journalists. "I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn't know about. It's part of human nature. I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on."

Fair enough. And, should you still be under the illusion that the former Elle Woods spends her days dispensing bend-and-snap tutorials with a chihuahua tucked under her arm, here's this quote about her work playing Wild's determined hiker.
"When you see me putting together the tent, that's literally me putting together the tent," she said. "It took me two hours. I could not figure out the f—ing tent. And when I kicked the stove, it's because I couldn't make the f—ing stove work."
Hey, nobody said America's Sweetheart couldn't cuss. (The Hollywood Reporter)
