Pigtails Have Made A Comeback

Pigtails exist in the junk drawer of my brain. I sported them when I was younger, until adulthood caused me to toss them aside. Now, they're collecting dust because I don't like to get rid of things. But, with Suki Waterhouse's recent take on the style, it's becoming more and more apparent: Pigtails are making a comeback.
Need proof? Suki isn't the only celeb jumping on the kiddie bandwagon. Alexa Chung showed off some kindergarten braids during London Fashion Week this season. And, for fall 2014, Marc by Marc Jacobs sent double-braided models down the runway. It begs the question: Are we ready for this?

Alexa's indie-girl plaits worked because she left them a little disheveled. And, since they were for a fashion show, we could just throw up our hands and declare, "Fashion!" But, there's something a little unnerving about Suki's set. Perhaps, it's because she's 22 and her boyfriend, Bradley Cooper, is 39. Maybe, it's because her pigtails were high, flouncy, and not unlike a set of puppy-dog ears — a bit too similar to how I wore 'em as a five-year-old. There's something very Lolita about grown women wearing styles usually seen on toddlers. Unlike Alexa's more sophisticated look, Suki's seems full-on nostalgic.
Whatever it was, her hair wasn't really working for me. And, yes, I'm kind of hoping this trend will quietly retreat into our childhoods, where it belongs. But, I want to know: Are you digging it?
