In a new ad campaign for DirecTV (courtesy of Grey New York) the 50-year-old actor (yes, 50), appears as two versions of himself. In both, the Lowe we all recognize — the one with a thick head of hair, beaming blue eyes, and chiseled jawline — is the proud owner of the luxe satellite service. Meanwhile, the other Rob Lowes — the ones with regular cable — are something entirely different.
One ad features Lowe as a slimeball who goes to the rec center to watch people swim when his cable goes out. The other stars a Rob Lowe with mangled teeth and one of the most hideous combovers we ever did see. While there's nothing wrong with not being a genetic wonder, we prefer living in a world where Rob Lowe will always be the heartthrob from St. Elmo's Fire, Youngblood, and The Outsiders. If that world is one that involves us getting DirecTV, where do we sign up? (Adweek)
