Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity has temporarily suspended its University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee chapter following a police investigation of a date-rape incident on September 12. Campus police allege members of TKE marked the hands of female guests with color-coded Xs and gave them date rape drugs.
Women at the party were informed they could buy an $8 all-access pass to the house and its booze stash. Some who attended the party said their drinks were mixed while hidden from view behind a bar, and that they appeared cloudy when served.
TKE headquarters tells the Huffington Post it's working with the university to resolve the case. "Police tell us that one person has been arrested in the case, but has not been charged pending review by the district attorney," vice chancellor for university relations at UW-Milwaukee Tom Luljak told the news outlet. The name of this person has yet to be released.
Though the university claims there were no reports of sexual assault from TKE that evening, at least three women and one man were reportedly vomiting and unable to walk at a residence hall. According to a local news station, all four required hospitalization. The three women in question all had red Xs on their hands, and though the man had a black X on his hand, he claims to have drank from the cup of one of the affected women.
The investigation is still ongoing, but this particular issue speaks to a larger, widespread problem on college campuses. It's reports such as this that merit a national revamp of the way colleges handle sexual assault cases. (HuffPost)
