Which States Are Searching For The Most BDSM Porn?

BritainsPornWordSearch_slide 2
There's not much that Americans like more than porn, but knowing what kind of porn other people are into is a close second. And, thanks to new Porhnub data, curious kinksters can rejoice: We now know which state the most BDSM-related searches on the site are coming from. Congrats, Wyoming!
The findings, posted this week on Pornhub's Insights blog, break down the top BDSM-related search terms on the site — and where people search for each of them. The three most popular terms around the world were "punish," "bondage," and "slave." Worldwide, the fourth most-searched BDSM term was simply "BDSM," but in the U.S., that spot was taken by the word "dominate," followed by "spanking."

Pornhub's analyses also include an interactive map of the U.S. that shows Oklahoma ranking first for searching the term "BDSM." Meanwhile, Montana is in the lead for "bondage," and West Virginia for "dominatrix." But, when all search terms were combined, Wyoming was the ultimate winner. Interestingly, most of the states with higher search rates for these terms are in the middle regions of the country, while New York ranks only seventh for "dominate" and a sorry 11th for "slave." The highest rank California gets is a paltry 28th for "BDSM."
The results here were similar to Pornhub's previous foray into data analysis, "America Runs on Anal." In this case, Montana, Alaska, and Wyoming took the top three places for anal-related searches in the U.S. Other research into Pornhub users' preferences showed a huge majority of them access the site on a Windows operating system — compared to only 10.9% on Macs. But, smartphone traffic was a little more even: 50% of mobile traffic to the site comes from Android devices and 40% from iPhones.
Although this only includes searches specifically on Pornhub, the trends are still striking and would be interesting to compare to other sites. What's behind all this BDSM fervor? Well, we may have our good friend Christian Grey to thank.
