Britney Spears Talks Katy Perry VMA Denim Outfit

Katy Perry and Riff Raff decided to treat the VMAs like Halloween and an Aughties revival fest rolled up into one. They dressed up as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, circa 2001. Raff wore his finest, most Timberlake-esque Canadian tuxedo, while Perry wore a long dress consisting of a multicolored denim bustier top and mermaid skirt.

Perry did take some liberties with Spears' original outfit — she incorporated acid-wash denim and bedazzling. Still, her main goal for the outfits was to pay direct homage to Britney and Justin's extremely questionable ensembles from the American Music Awards that fateful day.

Despite her self-proclaimed worst-dressed status, Perry still didn't want to offend the grandam of the all-denim look. She tweeted to Britney Spears for approval.

Luckily, Britney had only kind words to say about Perry's fashion tribute.

Katy Perry is lucky Britney Spears is so chill about things. If that had been us, we would've fired back a "You're gonna hear me (and my lawyers) ROAR" tweet without a second thought. Followed shortly by "jk lol...baby you're a firework." (Extra)
