Lupita Nyong'o's Stylist On How To Live That Red Carpet Life, Every Day

As individuals who've never stepped foot onto the red carpet, we still have an awful lot of thoughts about it. It's one of the few places people go to make a statement about themselves based entirely on what they're wearing; and as fashion nerds, can you blame us for being fascinated? We've always preached that your clothes can be an extension of your personality, and the slew of upcoming red carpet events is the ultimate manifestation of that fact.
Of course, anyone who's tuned in the hour before an awards ceremony knows that not everyone hits their cues. With a team of stylists, professionals, and agents helping celebs deliberately project, sometimes they unintentionally say the wrong thing (the worst of which is, "I'm trying to be someone I'm not"). However, one starlet who rarely gets it wrong is Lupita Nyong'o, and we credit a lot of her ability to look like a 100% mega-babe while also being 100% herself to her stylist, Micaela Erlanger. Her red carpet philosophy is about easy elegance, and we love that we're always able to pinpoint one thing we can recreate in our own outfits the very next day.

In an exclusive pre-Emmy's video in partnership with Dove Body Wash's One Shower Challenge, Micaela Erlanger is turning her focus onto women whose soles might not be treading on a red carpet anytime soon (ahem — hello, fellow ordinaries!), but do have cocktail parties, weddings, and bashes where rolling through in cut-offs and bedhead just won't cut it. And, no, you don't need a professional blowout, designer dress, or crash-diet techniques to have your own Lupita moment. Click the video below to check out Micaela's thoughts on what makes a great glamour moment (and conversely, what can make for a flop).
