Turkish Women Get The Last Laugh In A New Social Campaign

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arinc made some controversial statements on Monday. As he was reportedly "lamenting the moral decline of modern society," he decided to share his views on some gender issues. "A man should be moral, but women should be moral as well," he said in a speech in Bursa. "They should know what is decent and what is not decent." Alright. But, what exactly are women doing that's so indecent? "She should not laugh loudly in front of all the world and should preserve her decency at all times," he stated.
Sometimes, there's no point in dignifying that type of logic with a response — at least not a verbal one. Instead, women all over Turkey are showing Arinc just how inappropriate they're willing to be. Women are posting selfies where they're laughing and smiling, using the hashtags #direnkahkaha (resist/laugh) and #kahkaha (laugh). It's clear these ladies don't give a hoot what this guy says, because smiling is their favorite. And, for a man who believes women shouldn't laugh, it must feel pretty uncomfortable to be the butt of their biggest joke. (Elle)
