Fashion designer Lela Rose may be known for her feminine frocks (they're a favorite of Kate Middleton), but she isn't afraid to get down and dirty. In the August issue of ELLE, the Texas native gives a peek into her Long Eddy, New York retreat (a short two-and-a-half-hour jaunt from the city), while preparing a serious dinner spread: fried chicken, homemade tortillas, the works.

Between bamboo hanging chairs and an array of birds' nests scattered about, Rose's country home is the ideal blend of a woodsy retreat with southern comfort; the designer says the four-bedroom home "reminds [her] of Texas." And, with its exposed wooden beams and earthy tones, it certainly feels a world away from New York City. With a nearly perfect pad in Tribeca (her ground-floor apartment features everything from a doggy elevator to an entire space devoted to, yes, tequila), Rose realized that the 3,600-square-foot cabin had to be up to serious standards for her family (which includes her husband, hedge fund manager Brandon Jones, and their two children, Grey, 12, and Rosey, 7) to leave the city on weekends. By the looks of it, she certainly achieved just that.

Rose's hanging bamboo rocker serves as the room's focal point.

The home's greenhouse is filled to the brim with blooming plants.
