Why We'll Be Copying Elle Fanning's Yellow Liner

Yellow isn't always the first color we reach for when lining our eyes, but after seeing this picture of Elle Fanning at Comic-Con, we think it might be time to reconsider. She looks chic, edgy, and whimsical. How is it possible that such a tricky color created a totally winning makeup look?

First of all, it's a neon yellow rather than a subtle one, so it stands out against Fanning's ivory skin (a lot like the neon yellow we recently featured in an editorial). There's a thin line of black on her top lashline, which helps the yellow pop — though the color would probably stand out on its own. The silhouette of the liner around her eyes also makes things interesting. It's not your average eyeliner color, so why do it in a basic shape?

The key to wearing this color, though, lies in the rest of her makeup. A brushed-out brow; clean, even skin; and the prettiest pale-pink flush on her cheeks make the yellow feel fresh and cool — it's a lived-in vibe instead of an overdone effect. Plus, a similar yellow appears on her nails, but the coordination feels playful instead of matchy-matchy. In conclusion, when we copy this look tomorrow, we won't change a thing.
