You still have at least five solid months until your 2014 calendar just becomes a collection of cute kitten pictures hanging on the wall just 'cause. But, Pirelli — maker of the world's sexiest and most name-drop worthy calendar — is already planning ahead. And, after 50 years of turning out a slew of pictures featuring scantily clad fashion models intended to help you remember your grandma's birthday and dentist appointments, the tire company has just added a wonderful addition to its 12 slots: A plus-size model has taken her place among its elite lineup.
Come 2015, Candice Huffine will officially become a Pirelli calendar girl, featured alongside models like Joan Smalls, Gigi Hadid, and Adriana Lima who have also been shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Carine Roitfeld for the upcoming edition. What's more, as the first plus-size woman to be included, she also joins the historical ranks of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Iman, and Sophia Loren.
It's a long time coming for the calendar, which celebrated its half-century birthday last year with a commemorative supermodel edition (plus a secret Helmut Newton add-on), to represent a range of bodies that's even more diverse than the variety made up of Moss' waif shape and Loren's perfect hourglass. After all, with 12 months to account for, why not fill the pages with as many iterations of sexy as possible? And, considering Candice can already list Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and i-D magazine in her resume, it's only fitting that she add a Pirelli bullet point, as well.
