High Ends' "Intoxicated" is a futuristic, psychedelic rock track that has put us in a trance. The vibe of the song makes us think of Tame Impala and comes from Yukon Blondes' Jeffrey Innes — it differs from his previous singles, which sounded more like Ariel Pink or Destroyer. It's safe to say we were really excited to premiere this track and can't wait to hear the album due October 7 via Dine Alone Records.
the bird and the bee
In all its lowercased glory, the bird and the bee is back with a new sunshine-infused, danceable love song. Inara George's breezy, effervescent voice is unforgettable and was greatly missed. Also, how seasonally appropriate are lyrics about getting it on in the back of a car?
"East of Eden"
We're kind of obsessed with the sweet, haunting voice Zella Day brings with her to "East of Eden." The singer's family owned the only coffeehouse with live music in town growing up, and she's brought those influences to meet West Coast melodies (sometimes sounding a bit like Lana Del Rey). We can't wait to hear more of Day's echoed vocals this year.
That Girl With Dark Eyes
Barcelona-based songstress That Girl With Dark Eyes' song "Hey Baby" is a magnetic, electro-synth piece that lured us in with its Daft Punk-like hook right in the beginning. We love the way that this lady drops the danceable beats and sings about her own independence. Plus, she has killer style.
"Cool Kids" by California band Echosmith won us over with its calming instrumentals, and the way its breathy vocals and layered composition seem to parallel indie-poppers Now, Now. Everything about it makes us want to join the in crowd.
