Gomez does a decent job of taking the hurtful comments, criticism, and general hate thrown her way in stride, though. She rarely (and wisely) never responds to most of the vitriol thrown her way. She even purged her Instagram of negativity in an inspiring bout of digital spring cleaning.
It takes a lot for a remark to cut deep enough for Gomez to directly respond to it. One such rare incident occurred this weekend. The original comment has been deleted, but judging from Selena's response, it had something to do with cancer. Gomez not only responded to the cutting remark, she also screen-shotted her comment and shared it with her 10.8 million followers. Hopefully, it will serve as a teaching moment to fans who think their cruel, anonymous Internet comments go unread. Celebrities do see them, and the words do hurt. (MTV)
