On a day when it's hot enough to break a sweat brushing your teeth, we don't exactly reach for the leather hanging in our closest. But, Melissa McCarthy has perhaps convinced us that we're all overreacting.

The actress arrived on the red carpet for last night's premiere of Tammy, in which she plays the title role. And, while we could easily write an ode to her new bangs and face-brightening highlights, we were most impressed by one of our favorite funny ladies' masterful application of a leather dress. In the summer. In Los Angeles. The trick to this super-sleek, midi-length number was a light layering of whisper-thin chiffon and a leather front. This was not a leather-all-over, sometimes-sqeaks-when-you-move situation.

To push the look even further, McCarthy added pops of leopard courtesy of sexy, strappy Tabitha Simmons soles, a boxy and embellished clutch, and stacks of rings — her only jewelry add-ons, and really all this look needed. Even the most advanced style stars could find it challenging to pair leather and leopard in a way that doesn't feel the least bit showgirl, but Melissa (peep) toes the line perfectly.
