Mindy Kaling announced at SXSW that she was working on a second book, much to her fans' delight. Now, she tells The Los Angeles Times it will be a collection of personal essays. The title — Why Not Me? — "has kind of been my subconscious motto my whole life," she explained to the paper.
She continued, "So much has happened between the time I published my first book and now. The show; my mother passed away; so many of my friends have gotten married. I'm a godmother now and a homeowner. There's so much that has happened in that period of time that I wanted to write another book."
Kaling's always been able to make us laugh. But, lately, she's also taken on more social commentary, addressing body acceptance, diversity on her TV show, and her cover of Elle magazine. And, that's the kind of writing we'll see from Kaling in this installment — with plenty of humor, of course. Her new book gives her space to answer questions fans have about things beyond her work as a comedian and actress: "[A]bout the writers' room, or race on the show — my Elle cover, body-image stuff that people have questions about. I can actually finally say, in the most eloquent way, what my feelings were about it."
There's no pub date set for the new collection. We recommend following Kaling on Twitter to keep you going while you wait patiently for its release. (The LA Times)
