Selena Gomez Ditches Pop For A Guitar Song

It's long been rumored (okay, it's been a month) that Selena Gomez is in the middle of reinventing herself. At the end of April, the typically bubblegum pop star/actress shared a few Instagram videos from a recording session showcasing a new acoustic side. She then went all Eat, Pray, Love and traveled a bit, even embarking on a UNICEF trip to Nepal (she's one of the organization's ambassadors).
And, on "Hold On" — a new single that surfaced today — Gomez keeps true to her folk-y Insta-teases. The tune features singer-songwriter Ben Kweller, a guy with a musical résumé far removed from the "Love You Like A Long Song" pop Gomez is known for.
The track is off the Rudderless soundtrack, a movie Gomez will star in alongside William H. Macy, Anton Yelchin, and Felicity Huffman. Directed by Macy, Rudderless follows a father who forms a band after discovering his deceased son's demo tapes. News about the actual film has been relatively sparse — it won't be released 'til next year — but it's pretty safe to assume Gomez's role will involve singing. Or, this song is for soundtrack purposes only, and her character is actually the least musical person out there. Our money's on the former. (Hollywood Life)
