Internet sleuths happened upon images of Knightley at a BAFTA Awards dinner several years earlier in the same strapless, tulle, Chanel number — without the cropped, bouclé jacket Karl Lagerfeld created for her nuptials. "I'd worn the dress lots," she confirmed to The Telegraph. "It was my something old. And, I liked not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again."
But, in Elle UK's July issue, Knightley reveals she and Righton had two ceremonies…and her second ensemble was bespoke Valentino. "'Would you like to see a picture?' she asks in manner of newlyweds the world over, and whips out her phone," reads the article. "It has long, layered lace skirts and tiny pink flowers embroidered all over it. She wore it 'for the ceremony we had just for our friends, in a wood, because you have to have flowers on a dress in a wood.'" (Cue Brit-tabloid hysteria that her "flowers on a dress in a wood" cost £50,000.)
In her March Telegraph interview, the actress mentioned that her Chanel dress has "now got red wine spilled down the front because the last time I wore it my friend went like this [juts out her elbows], and now it's everywhere…I'm pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can't, I'm happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed." In retrospect, we realize why Knightley didn't sound distraught. It's no use crying over spilled red wine when your other, secret wedding dress was a Valentino.
