Electronic music follows formulas for a reason. They're meant to get the people moving, feeling themselves, and having a moment. Britain's fusion-electro foursome Clean Bandit knows that all too well. "So you think electronic music is boring?" Clean Bandit's mini-mix asks as the synths pulse. "You think it's stupid. You think it's repetitive," the voice continues. "Well, it is repetitive." The beat swoops in.
It's a subtle aural confrontation, but its beat is enough to get even the staunchest dance-music haters tapping their feet.
Together, Jack and Luke Patterson, Grace Chatto, and Milan Neil Amin-Smith challenge the tried and true formulas. They fuse together traditional electronic elements with deep house and classical influences. The group's debut album, New Eyes, drops June 17 on Big Beat/Atlantic Records. In anticipation for Clean Bandit's stateside premiere, it's released a 15-minute mini-mix. And, it's a gem, folks. Island vibes melt into underground Euro-house production, before it's capped off with the neo-disco Disclosure helped to popularize. Get up, get down, but don't ever stop moving.
