Divergent Liner Is Officially A Thing, Thanks To Chanel

Less than a week after Dior debuted divergent liner (a.k.a. our new favorite eye-makeup look) at its resort show, the inky-black trend made its second appearance. This time, it was on the Chanel runways. And, as is the cardinal rule of trend-spotting, once Chanel does it, it's legit.
Unlike Dior's minimalist take on divergent liner — which can also be identified as dancer liner, as it's a popular technique among stage performers — Chanel amped up the glitz factor. Not only did models sport a more smoked-out version of the trend, but they also wore tiny pieces of gold leaf on the inner corners of their peepers. And, to intensify the space between the two lines, lead makeup artist Tom Pecheux worked a shimmering metallic shadow into the gap.
Aside from the casual gold leaf (because it's just too good), we love how Pecheux's smoky take shows how versatile divergent liner is. We can see this look working for a night out, while Dior's version could easily transition into daytime. But, we're most interested in seeing what the next unique interpretation is. Maybe bright colors? We've got some experimenting to do...
