Does It Take An Olsen To Pull Off This Style Trick?

Since the time we began style stalking the Starbucks-wielding Olsen twins during their NYU days, it's become pretty clear that the now-CFDA-winning duo preach the you-do-you philosophy of fashion. But, it's not just a twin thing — it may actually be a family creed. And, Elizabeth Olsen's print-clashed outfit stands as proof.
While we're fans of mixing patterns that have juxtaposing lines or pairing prints of various scale, the younger of the Olsen sisters stepped out in two completely opposite motifs that made even the more adventurous of the clashers among us pause. Wearing a bold Chloé dress that features both florals and spots, Elizabeth also sported a pair of tan, snakeskin pumps by the same designer. Oil and water? Not exactly.
While a "safer" sartorial choice — although, who wants that? — for an eye-catching dress may have been a solid-color shoe, we have to give major props to anyone who sets their own standard of neutral clothing. As far as we're concerned, Elizabeth treating snakeskin as a goes-with-everything pattern is no different than swapping in Breton stripes or leopard where you might normally reach for black, white, or tan. No, it definitely doesn't take an Olsen to pull off this tricky combination, but it sure doesn't hurt to have another bold street-style shot to serve as inspiration.
